To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is returning to theaters once more.
Empire Magazine (via Star Wars) revealed that the first installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy will be returning to theaters starting on Friday, May 3. To celebrate the rerelease, a new poster made by Matt Ferguson was shown, which you can view below:
“Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is a young apprentice Jedi knight under the tutelage of Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson); Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), who will later father Luke Skywalker and become known as Darth Vader, is just a 9-year-old boy,” reads the film’s synopsis. “When the Trade Federation cuts off all routes to the planet Naboo, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are assigned to settle the matter.”
Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace was first released in theaters on May 19, 1999. Written and directed by George Lucas, the film starred Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd, Ian McDiarmid, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Pernilla August, and Frank Oz.
What Star Wars projects are in the works?
Quite a few Star Wars projects are set to release in the future, including the Disney+ series The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew. A second season of Ahsoka was announced, while the video game Star Wars Outlaws is currently set to release some time in 2024.
