After Pedro Pascal exited the movie back in January, it sounds as though Josh Brolin will be playing the lead role in Zach Cregger’s Weapons.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brolin is in negotiations to star in the upcoming horror thriller movie from the director of Barbarian. The outlet notes that the actor has never done a horror film before and that he is “choosy” in regards to which projects he takes on and which directors he works with.
The film is described as an “interrelated, multistory horror epic.” It was originally planned to shoot last year with Pascal in the lead, though the 2023 entertainment industry strikes delayed production, leading to Pascal dropping out as it would conflict with shooting Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four.
Weapons is Cregger’s first project after the success of Barbarian, his 2022 horror breakout hit. Made for an estimated $4.5 million, Barbarian went on to gross over $45 million, and met with acclaim from critics.
What was Barbarian about?
“Traveling to Detroit for a job interview, a young woman books a rental home,” reads Barbarian’s synopsis. “But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.”
