Auli’i Cravalho Talks Moana 2, Legacy of Original Film

Moana star Auli’i Cravalho has briefly spoken about Moana 2 and how the Disney movie has left her own legacy over the years.

While speaking with Variety, Cravalho revealed her feelings about the Moana franchise growing through the upcoming sequel and live-action remake. She noted that she feels quite positive about the expansion of the series and described the impact of the Disney character over the years since the original movie’s release.

“It feels like the Moana universe is expanding and I love that,” Cravalho stated. “I love that Moana is a hero to all. It changed what it meant to be a Disney princess. You can be strong and brave and stand up against a demigod. It feels really good that more and more generations are going to be able to relate to this character.”

The actress also said that she couldn’t give any updates on the live-action Moana remake, as she comically explained she “could feel Mickey Mouse breathing down my neck.” As of now, it is set to release on June 27, 2025 and will be directed by Tony winner Thomas Kail and produced by Dwayne Johnson, who will also reprise his role as Maui. Cravalho is executive producing the remake.
