Jessica Alba Looks Back at Her Time on the Fantastic Four Movies

The sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will kick off next year with The Fantastic Four. But one can’t forget the Tim Story movies that started it all. Jessica Alba sure doesn’t, as she looks back at her time playing the original Sue Storm.

Back in 2005, Jessica Alba played Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, whose powers include invisibility and creating force fields. Her character also served as the heart of the superhero quartet, reminding everyone about being a team. 19 years later, Alba spoke to ComicBook about what her time as The Invisible Woman was like:

“It’s nothing but fond memories,” said Alba. “I loved it so much playing that character. I feel like my whole life started in a lot of ways at that moment. I met my life partner, we’re still together, we have three kids. Tim Story, who directed, is still one of my best friends. We have New Year’s Eve together. It was great and she was such a cool, inspiring character and ahead of her time, I would say, in the genre. And still, you still haven’t seen someone who is so nurturing and feminine, but then also a fearsome badass. I haven’t seen that combination again. And so I think she still fills this beautiful kind of space or void in the Marvel universe.”

Jessica Alba reprised her role in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer two years later. Due to mixed reviews, decreasing box office returns, and producer Avi Arad focusing his attention on Marvel Studios and Iron Man, a third Fantastic Four movie was ultimately canceled.

Who will be playing Sue Storm in the new Fantastic Four movie?

The next actress to take on the role of Sue Storm will be Vanessa Kirby. You may recognize the English actress from when she played Princess Margaret in The Crown and White Widow in the Mission: Impossible movies. The movie that got her recognized by The Academy Awards was when she played a grieving woman in Pieces of a Woman and received a nomination for it. Back in February when the Oscar nominee was cast as Sue Storm, she took to Instagram to express her gratitude for getting the part.

“Happy Valentine’s Day everybody. From our family to yours. Very honoured to take on Sue Storm, Marvel’s OG lady since 1961. I hope to do her justice.”

With Vanessa Kirky’s experiences playing action-packed roles as well as emotional ones, I’m confident she’ll be “fantastic” playing The Invisible Woman. However, we’ll always remember Jessica Alba as the OG Marvel superhero who first brought the character to life on the big screen.
