Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are all set to team up in the highly-anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine. However, there has been considerable speculation among fans about whether they will continue to be part of the MCU beyond the Shawn Levy directorial venture. Now, in a recent interview, the two Hollywood superstars have teased whether they will appear in Avengers 5, and possibly even Avengers: Secret Wars.

While promoting Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds and Jackman teased Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars appearance, though they didn’t say much.
When asked if they would appear in future Avengers movies during a July 2024 interview with Variety, Reynolds said, “I don’t know. Yeah, we’ll see. Yeah.”
Director Shawn Levy, one of the filmmakers in contention to potentially direct Avengers 5, humorously added, “Now is where you go to the descriptive part of the article and say, ‘They were shuffling in their seats.'” This prompted Jackman to say, “Clearly, this is our first major interview of this press tour. I’m not sure how to answer.”
The three of them evaded giving a direct answer, neither confirming nor denying it. This may be a hint that something with their Deadpool & Wolverine characters is perhaps in the works. However, the MCU has always maintained secrecy about its future projects, so this response isn’t unexpected.
Reynolds and Jackman’s depictions of their respective characters are widely regarded as two of the best performances in superhero films. After Disney acquired Fox in 2019, it effectively became a matter of time before they joined the MCU.
Now, they may or may not appear in the fifth Avengers film, slated to come out on May 1, 2026. But, it’ll be likelier for them to return in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to be the biggest multiversal crossover event of MCU to date.
Deadpool & Wolverine will debut in the U.S. theaters on July 26, 2024. It also stars Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Karan Soni as Dopinder.
