The first reactions to Deadpool & Wolverine are out, and they are overwhelmingly positive. The film will come out in the US on Friday, July 26. But Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy introduced the first 35 minutes of the film at a fan event in Shanghai, China, in early July. Viewers who attended the event subsequently took to social media to hail the film as “super funny” and “outrageous.”
First Deadpool & Wolverine reactions praise its opening scene and brutal action
Journalists and fans heaped praise on Deadpool & Wolverine’s opening scene and brutal action after exiting the half-hour-long screening in Shanghai. The organizers hosted the event as part of the film’s global promotional tour.
GamesRadar+ journalist Amy West referred to Deadpool & Wolverine in a post on X (formerly Twitter) as “violent, energetic, and super funny”. West’s post states, “The first 35 mins of #DeadpoolAndWolverine go hard on the self-aware gags. It’s violent, energetic, and super funny! I just hope it’s given space to be a movie in the remaining 92. SO good to see Hugh Jackman in that suit. Matthew Macfadyen = MVP. Can’t wait for the rest!”
In another post, Ian Sandwell of Digital Spy called the first set piece in the movie “bloody and outrageous”. “I have seen (35 minutes of) Deadpool & Wolverine,” Sandwell explained. “It’s a promising start with an excellent opening gag, and if you’re still worried Deadpool has been tamed, the bloody and outrageous first set piece will resolve any worries.”
An X user with the handle @hzjoe03 mentioned that despite the Disney-Fox merger, “this feels like a straight up continuation from Deadpool 2 story and tone wise. Nothing has been toned back, all the comedy hit, and the action was beautiful.” According to them, the movie’s trailer didn’t reveal much, as most of what it shows takes place early in the film.
IGN’s Matt Purslow mentioned in an article that there is a deep cut in the film that involves something “fans have been waiting years… no, decades to see on screen,” echoing something that Deadpool says in one of the film’s promotional clips.
Deadpool & Wolverine will come out in the UK on July 25, 2024, and in China on the same day as the US.
