Twisters Director Praises David Corenswet as Superman: ‘He’s Going to Kill it’

Twisters, the standalone sequel to 1996’s Twister, will usher in a new crop of budding stars, including Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos. Yet the biggest star of Twisters might end up being David Corenswet, who will play Clark Kent next summer in James Gunn’s Superman.

What Did Twisters Director Say About David Corenswet?

In Twisters, Corenswet plays Scott, a member of the storm-chasing team run by Ramos’s Javi. While filming Twisters, Corenswet was in consideration for Superman. When director Lee Isaac Chung heard about Corenswet’s association with the Man of Steel, he knew the actor would be a “great Superman.”

“He is such an imposing and big presence and larger than life – but there’s this genuine purity to him, in a weird way, that I feel fits in a lot with Superman,” Chung told the Inside Total Film podcast. “I remember when he came back from doing auditions in LA. He came back to set, and he was still carrying that Superman to us. He’s someone who stays within the role a little bit. I’m not saying he’s method, but he kind of takes on that aura a little bit.”

Corenswet’s Scott is considered an antagonist, the opposite of the heroic role he’ll be playing in Superman. When Corenswet returned to the set after the Superman audition, Chung knew the actor’s life was about to change.

“When he [Corenswet] came back from that audition, I remember feeling like he must have got it,” Chung explained. “It was this weird sense that I had that he just looked the part. He just felt the part to me. Man, I feel like James Gunn has lucked out finding this guy because he’s a real discovery, and he’s going to kill it.”

Twisters opens in theaters on July 19, 2024. Meanwhile, Superman soars into theaters next summer on July 11, 2025.
