Marvel & DC: Kevin Feige Says ‘Never Say Never’ to MCU-DCU Crossover Movie

Although Marvel and DC have been traditionally one another’s competitors, Kevin Feige doesn’t want to rule out the possibility of an MCU-DCU crossover movie somewhere down the line. He was asked about such a project during a recent interview, and his answer has offered some hope to fans who are eager to see DC characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman sharing the screen with Marvel characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Captain America.

Kevin Feige reveals if there are plans for an MCU and DCU crossover event

With the US release date of Deadpool & Wolverine only days away, Feige spoke about another possible team-up movie in an interview with Collider. This potential film would involve characters from both DC and Marvel coming together in a prospective MCU-DCU crossover event.

When Feige was asked if such a project can ever happen, especially now that James Gunn, a former MCU director, is the co-head of the DCU, his answer was both practical and hopeful. “I mean, I think about it occasionally, like any fan would think about it,” he told Collider. “I don’t know when in the heck that would ever happen, or how that would happen. But we’ve been talking too long for me to go, ‘Never! We’d never be able to do that.’ We’ll never say never, but no, no plans.”

As things stand now, the crossover is a distant possibility. But the franchises, despite being competitors, can exist and thrive side by side. Feige revealed to the same outlet that he had seen the paparazzi shots of the Superman set and stated that it looked “cool.” He added, “So he’s [Gunn] focusing on that. We’re focusing on this [Deadpool & Wolverine and other upcoming MCU projects].”

In the comics, there have been multiple crossover events featuring characters from both Marvel and DC. The first ever intercompany crossover was the 1976 non-canonical publication Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man. As it’s been shown that these characters can co-exist in print, many fans remain hopeful that they will do so on the big screen someday as well.
