Fifth Season of ‘Boston Legal’ Makes Me Happy

Each year the arrival of the review copy of the legal drama/comedy “Boston Legal” is a very special day. As of right now I am not sure when that fourth season DVD set will be released, but I am anxiously awaiting my chance to finally see John Larroquette in action as part of the team. I know his existence doesn’t exactly make sense as he has already been on the show as a different character, but that just doesn’t matter to me. And now we learn this fourth season won’t be the end of it all.

After a fantastic first season, the second season wasn’t anywhere near as good and the third season luckily picked up the pace a little. It appears the fourth season didn’t do a whole lot to bring in new viewers, but Variety is reporting that despite a small, but loyal, audience “Boston Legal” has been greenlit for at least one more season.

Apparently some pilot called “Life on Mars” is at the center of negotiations between ABC and “Legal” team David E. Kelley Prods. The show centers on a 21st century detective (Jason O’Mara) who somehow finds himself transported to the 1970s — where he encounters a serial killer who may have something to do with the present-day abduction of his girlfriend.

The show apparently got bumped because a proper lead couldn’t be found in time and now it seems Kelley wants out despite owning the rights to the show. Word is that once Kelley splits ABC Studios is expected to join 20th Century Fox TV as a co-producer on the drama and get it underway.
