Alfonso Cuaron Rumored to Have Been Offered to Direct a Prequel to ‘The Shining’

I guess this is an appropriate enough rumor to post following my last item as rumor now has it Alfonso Cuaron has been approached to direct a prequel to Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining titled The Overlook Hotel.

The rumor comes from SchmoesKnow who say the job is his if he wants it and should he sign on he’d be working with a script from Glen Mazzara (“The Walking Dead”). I can only assume the story would focus on the caretaker that looked after the hotel before Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) and his family arrived, but without any specific story details I can only assume.

It is a little surprising they would move first on a prequel rather than targeting Stephen King‘s sequel to “The Shining”, “Doctor Sleep“, especially considering a prequel would only seem to rehash what has already been done. To that point, Cuaron doesn’t seem like a filmmaker who would be interested in stomping on ground previously tread by a cinematic master. The comparisons alone would seem reason enough not to take the gig.

Of course, Cuaron is also Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a project that seems far more to Cuaron’s taste, but we’ll see.
