Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Hangover Part II earned another $30 million on Friday from 3,615 theaters to bring its two-day total to a massive $61.6 million. That’s the best ever Friday for a live-action comedy and only slightly down from its $31.6 million Thursday opening. The hit comedy should break the $100 million mark on Sunday, its fourth day of release, something that took the first film ten days to do. The Hangover Part II is expected to bring in over $130 million domestically for the five-day holiday release!
Remaining in second place was DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2, which added $13.2 million on Friday in 3,925 theaters. While that’s an increase from its $5.8 million Thursday opening, the $19 million the sequel has earned in two days falls short of the $20.3 million the first Kung Fu Panda made its first day (a Friday).
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides brought in another $10.9 million from 4,164 theaters on Friday in third place. The fourth film has now earned $124.4 million domestically after eight days, but internationally it has already collected $378.4 million to bring its worldwide total to $502.8 million.
Bridesmaids continued to do well in fourth place with $4.6 million to bring its total to $73.3 million, while Thor rounded out the top five with $2.4 million to bring its total to $152.8 million.
Fast Five came in at No. 6 grossing $1.8 million for a domestic total of $191.2 million. Overseas, the sequel has already reached $337.1 million putting its worldwide total at $528.4 million.
