Deadline has received word that Marvel Studios is getting close to naming Patty Jenkins as the director for Thor 2. She is best known for directing Monster, for which Charlize Theron won an Oscar, as well as the pilot for AMC’s “The Killing.” Kenneth Branagh directed the first film, which earned an impressive $449 million worldwide.
The sequel has been set for a July 26, 2013 release, but Thor will first be seen again in Marvel’s The Avengers, opening May 4, 2012.
Chris Hemsworth is currently filming Snow White and the Huntsman opposite Theron and Kristen Stewart.
