A first look at Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean from the set of Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables is now online, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies. He joins an ensemble cast that includes Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit and Samantha Barks.
In turn based on Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel, the hit Broadway musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg opened in 1985, beginning one of the longest runs for a musical ever. Set against the backdrop of the 19th Century French rebellion, the musical has been adapted for the screen by William Nicholson.
Hooper is going to be following up his Oscar win for The King’s Speech with the adaptation, set up at Working Title and Universal Pictures.
Les Miserables is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2012.
