Ahead of the film’s debut next Friday, Walt Disney Studios has released a brand new Cruella featurette for Craig Gillespie’s upcoming live-action feature, based on the character created by Dodie Smith from her 1956 book The Hundred and One Dalmatians. The video features interviews from Gillespie, Emma Stone, and Emma Thompson as they talked about the importance of using 1970s music in bringing the Disney villain’s origin story to life. The film is slated to arrive in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on Friday, May 28.
The new behind-the-scenes featurette’s release also came with the debut of Walt Disney Records’ official soundtrack and original score album for Cruella which are now both available on all music outlets. The official lyric video for Florence + The Machine’s original song, “Call me Cruella,” has also been released. The track is included on both albums as well as the Official Cruella Playlist available here.

Disney’s Cruella will explore the rebellious early days of one of cinema’s most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. Set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, the film follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets.
One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly Haute. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable, and revenge-bent Cruella.

The live-action film will be led by Oscar winners Emma Stone as the young titular fur-obsessed villain and Emma Thompson as the Baroness. Joining them are Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser as the henchmen Jasper and Horace, along with Mark Strong, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Emily Beecham.

Cruella is directed by I, Tonya filmmaker Craig Gillespie from a screenplay written by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, based on a story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis. It is executive produced by original Cruella actress Glenn Close with Emma Stone, Michelle Wright, Jared LeBoff, Andrew Gunn, Marc Platt, and Kristin Burr set as producers. Two-time Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road) creates the dazzling and imaginative costumes, which take on a life of their own.
