Focus Features has released the first trailer for Robert Eggers’ epic Viking revenge thriller The Northman, which will debut in theaters on April 22, 2022.

The movie is described as “an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father.”

The film stars Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies, Godzilla vs. Kong), Golden Globe winner Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit, Last Night in Soho), Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Big Little Lies, Being the Ricardos), Oscar nominees Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, The Black Phone, The Good Lord Bird) and Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Nightmare Alley), Claes Bang (The Square, The Burnt Orange Heresy), and Grammy/Oscar-nominated Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk (Dancer in the Dark).

The movie was directed by Eggers (The Lighthouse, The Witch), who co-wrote the screenplay with Oscar nominee Sjón (Dancer in the Dark, Lamb). The Northman is produced by Lars Knudson and Mark Huffam.
