Lot of people talked about writer/director Rick Famuyiwa‘s Dope as it hit the scene at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and starting this week moviegoers can see what they were talking about in Park City this January. But before that, people can check out the latest red-band trailer spilling out the movie’s plot details and also some of its better gags.
Starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Kiersey Clemons (“Transparent“), Blake Anderson (“Workaholics“), Zoe Kravitz, A$AP Rocky and Keith Stanfield (Short Term 12), as well as the voice of Forest Whitaker as the narrator, this trailer does a solid job at establishing the high energy and rambunctious cast interacting with the rather silly plot. Even if it — like so many red-band trailers — gives away a little more than one should know going into this movie, it’s an accurate and well-edited representation of the film.
If you like the trailer (or not), you should know whether or not you’ll like the movie. If you’re not sure, though, here are trailers to watch.
And if you like the trailer and want to see the movie this weekend, there’s more than one way to buy a ticket. Open Road Films announced today audiences can purchases a ticket via Bitcoin on MovieTickets.com. While this may seem random at first, especially given its ’90s-centric characters, it’s actually a pretty smart marketing movie considering how much the platform plays into Dope‘s main plot. It’s also a great way to bring the currency system into the mainstream, especially if the main character’s opening line of dialogue is meant to be taken as the truth.
