Lifetime’s latest crime thriller Would You Kill For Me? The Mary Bailey Story delves into Mary’s unthinkable past, a horrifying story. The film premiered on October 28, 2023.
According to People Magazine, in February 1987, Mary Bailey was a little girl when her mother, Priscilla Wyers, handed her a rifle. Priscilla then persuaded the girl to shoot and kill her abusive stepfather, Wayne Wyers, at their West Virginia home. The mother initially told police that she pulled the trigger before pinning it on the 11-year-old. Both faced murder charges.
Was Mary Bailey Convicted & Where Is She Now?
The same People Magazine report mentioned that all charges against Mary Bailey were dropped once she agreed to testify against her mother Priscilla Wyers. She was then placed in foster care. Meanwhile, in 1988, a jury found Priscilla guilty of first-degree murder for forcing her 11-year-old daughter to fatally shoot her abusive husband. She received a life sentence but became eligible for parole in 1998 followed by her release. Since then, the mother-daughter duo has been living together.
According to the U.S. Sun, Mary Bailey opened up about the harrowing experience from decades ago. She said, “I remember every detail. I remember the shock because it took three times for the weapon [a .22-cal. rifle] to fire. I remember when the fire came out of the end of it.” She recalled that night and the conversation with Priscilla, who told her, “If you do this…it will all be over. You’re not gonna go to jail, you’re too young.”
The outlet reported that Mary claimed that her mother insisted she pull the trigger. She also explained that after the police arrived at their home, her mother initially took the fall for it before flipping her story and pinning it on the 11-year-old girl.
People’s report states that Mary now resides with her husband, an attorney, in North Carolina and also owns a medical uniform business.
