Was Jodi Arias Found Guilty & Where Is She Now?

A sensational case resulted in the conviction of Jodi Arias for the 2008 murder of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander. Following this, she received a life sentence without the possibility of parole. According to People Magazine, Arias is currently serving her sentence at the Perryville State Women’s Prison in Goodyear, Arizona.

AZ Central reported that in 2008, Arias’ on-again-off-again boyfriend Alexander was found dead in the bathroom of his Mesa home. He died of at least 30 stab wounds and a slit throat. The following events and investigation into the killing caused a media frenzy ultimately concluding with Arias’ conviction. She has unsuccessfully appealed her conviction and sentence multiple times.

The case against Jodi Arias and her current whereabouts explored

Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander first met at a company convention in Las Vegas in September 2006 and instantly connected. However, as the months passed, the latter’s friends started noticing disturbing behavior, per People Magazine. She was allegedly possessive qualities and always “had to sit right by him” whenever they all hung out together. “She didn’t appreciate when he was talking to another female,” said Alexander’s friend Clancy Talbot.

The outlet reported that their relationship seemingly ended after five months but Arias moved from Palm Desert to Mesa in Ariza where Alexander lived. She soon started displaying stalker-like and suspicious behavior, lived in Mesa for eight months, and moved back to California in April 2008.

It later came to light – via text messages- that the duo had been in a massive fight and in June, Alexander disappeared. He was about to go on a trip to Cancun with friends at the time. Police soon found his body in a gory crime scene at the house. He died of a gunshot wound to the head, 30 stab wounds as well as a slit throat, per AZ Central.

People reported that suspicion soon fell on Arias, then 28, when she called the police to tell them that she was on her way to Utah to visit a new love interest on the day of the murder. However, the victim’s friends told police about her stalker-like behavior.

Authorities linked the potential suspect to the crime using fingerprints from a bloody handprint found at the crime scene despite her having an alibi. They also found a camera in the washing machine which had photos of the estranged couple timestamped from that day.

Reportedly, Arias initially maintained that she was not at Alexander’s house on the day of the murder but later admitted to being there. As per her admittance, they had sex, took intimate photos, and were allegedly attacked by masked intruders. Her narrative didn’t come through and police charged her with first-degree murder to which she pleaded not guilty.

Investigators claimed that Jodi Arias stabbed Alexander over two dozen times and then slit his throat before shooting him in the head. She was in custody for more than four years and ultimately stood trial in January 2013. During the high-profile trial, the accused claimed to have committed the crime in self-defense.

However, the jury, despite convicting Arias, failed to decide whether to hand her the death penalty, resulting in a mistrial. A second jury deliberated in October 2014 but was deadlocked. Therefore, a judge handed her life in prison without parole based on the 2013 conviction.

As previously reported, the convict is now serving time at the Perryville State Women’s Prison in Goodyear, Arizona. She will not become eligible for release.
