Space Force Season 1 Episode 9 and Episode 10 Recap

In the previous episodes of Netflix’s Space Force, Maggie asked Gen. Naird for an open marriage, and Capt. Ali asked Chan to help her become an astronaut. In Space Force Season 1 Episode 9, Naird started dating Kelly King, while Ali and the other astronauts landed on the Moon, and in Space Force Season 1 Episode 10, Sec-Def ordered Naird to retaliate against the Chinese on the Moon.

Back on the Moon

Dr. Mallory felt the pressure of the launch, and F. Tony berated the press for their doubtful questions. The Chinese declared the Sea of Tranquility theirs for scientific purposes before Ali and the other astronauts could land there. She spoke to Chan privately about the words she would say when she landed on the Moon. They would be important since she would be the first female and first black person on the Moon. She insisted she wanted to say, “It’s good to be back on the Moon.” However, when it came down to it, she ended up saying, “It’s good to be black on the Moon,” and became a meme on TikTok.

Meanwhile, Naird attempted diplomacy, first with the Chinese scientists on the Moon and then with the leader of their space program.

Retaliation

The Chinese ran over the Apollo 11 flag on purpose. The generals met with Sec-Def to discuss their response. They were torn on the level of response, and Sec-Def ordered Naird to respond with force. Mallory quit but helped school Naird in passive-aggression. Naird ordered Ali to dismantle the guns that they had brought to the Moon with them and use the parts to build the habitat. When Gen. Grabaston came to take over, they couldn’t attack.

F. Tony used a focus group to help generate ideas for an appropriate Space Force response. They were looking for something higher than running over the flag but lower than attack. The astronauts ended up dismantling parts of the Chinese habitat, but when they arrived back to theirs, the Chinese had trashed it.

Cheater

Naird asked Kelly out and was up front about the situation with his wife. When they went to dinner, he’d picked a restaurant that was out of the way, and Kelly questioned why. Naird didn’t want Erin to find out from someone else that he was dating. However, the next morning, Erin met Kelly in at Naird’s house. She was upset, not knowing that Maggie had wanted an open marriage. Erin got drunk at the froyo stand and wrote “Cheater” on Kelly’s car. She was fired for being drunk and went off with strange guys.

Regretting her decision to go off with them, she called Naird and Duncan, who had both been arrested. Erin called Maggie, who told her she would have to figure it out. She stole a motorbike and was being chased, but Naird landed a helicopter to rescue her. Maggie and her lover were in the chopper too, and Naird had risked his job to save Erin.
