The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 4, Episode 5, & Episode 6 Recap
In the previous episodes of Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor, Dani began her position at Bly Manor as the new governess to Flora and Miles Wingrave. In The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 4, we learned what drove Dani to London, in The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 5, Mrs. Grose didn’t realize the truth, and in The Haunting of Bly Manor Episode 6, Sir Henry struggled with his guilt as Flora got lost in her memories.
The Way It Came
Dani had been haunted by a silhouette of a man with glasses throughout the series. He was her childhood sweetheart, Edmund. When they were old enough, Dani accepted his proposal to marry him. However, she called off their engagement. In the car afterwards, they argued, and Edmund exited and was hit by a car. His mother visited Dani as she was leaving for London and gave her his glasses.
Mrs. Grose and Dani didn’t go to Owen’s mother’s funeral. Flora spent the afternoon making grave rubbings. Both Jamie and Owen came back to Bly Manor afterwards. Dani, Jamie, Mrs. Grose, and Owen sat beside a bonfire and drank wine. Dani and Jamie kissed, but it stopped when Dani saw Edmund. While everyone was in bed, the children distracted Dani from a ghost in the hall. When it was clear, Dani went back to the bonfire to burn Edmund’s glasses.
The Altar of the Dead
Throughout this episode, Hannah Grose moved through out her memories and kept coming back to when she interviewed Owen. Her husband Sam left her, and Charlotte Wingrave offered her a live-in position at Bly. She found Peter trying to steal Charlotte’s jewelry and reflected on a memory of Peter and Rebecca that she wasn’t part of. Flora and Miles found Peter in the hallway and a faceless ghost in white dragged him into the lake. He came back to them as a ghost and could possess Miles. While possessed, Miles pushed Mrs. Grose into a dry well, killing her, right before she met Dani. Beside the bonfire while drunk, Owen wondered if they could go to Paris together.
The Jolly Corner
Flora had been experiencing memories of her mother and Rebecca. Dani was concerned about Flora as she acted strangely and slept a lot. She called Henry, but he didn’t want to take her calls. Jamie thought Flora needed to see a psychiatrist. She opened up to Dani about growing up in foster care and why she liked taking care of plants. Dani saw Rebecca talking with Flora, and Peter confronted her in the attic.
Henry and Charlotte had been having a years-long affair, and Dominic Wingrave realized it when Henry got Flora her dollhouse. The timeline of Flora’s conception didn’t add up, leading him to believe that Henry was her biological father. The Wingraves died on their trip to India, which they took to rekindle their marriage. Before they left, Dominic confronted Henry, and Charlotte told him she wanted to make her marriage work.
