Netflix has taken to Twitter to announce it has given a series order to Oscar winner Adam McKay’s new limited drama series titled Kings of America with six-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams attached to portray for one of the three female leads. This project marks the latest collaboration between Adams and McKay, who have previously worked together on 2006’s Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and 2018’s Vice.
This announcement also comes after yesterday’s report about Netflix’s final negotiations for the worldwide rights to Adam’s upcoming thriller film The Woman in the Window, which was originally set to be distributed by 20th Century Studios.

Kings of America will follow the stories of three powerful women whose lives were inextricably intertwined with the world’s largest company: a Walmart heiress, a maverick executive, and a longtime Walmart saleswoman and preacher who dared to fight against the retail giant in the biggest class action lawsuit in US history.
The limited series is written and created by Jess Kimball Leslie. It will be executive produced by McKay, who will also serve as a director for the first episode. On top of starring, Adams has also signed on to executive produce along with Stacy O’Neil through their Bond Group Entertainment. Emmy nominee Diana Son has been set as the showrunner, who will also executive produce alongside Leslie, Brunsun Green and Hyperobject Industries’ Betsy Koch.

Adams is mostly known for her acclaimed roles in award-winning films such as The Fighter, Her, The Master, American Hustle, Arrival, Nocturnal Animals and Vice. She also starred in HBO’s 2018 miniseries Sharp Objects which was her first major TV series and had earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film.
