After earning rave reviews for her turn as Catherine the Great in the hit historical fiction dramedy for the streaming platform, Elle Fanning is reuniting with Hulu to star in the forthcoming limited series The Girl From Plainville, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series, based up on Jesse Baron’s Esquire article of the same name, is inspired by the real-life story of Michelle Carter, a young woman who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2017 in a “texting-suicide” case, with the project set to chronicle the relationship between Carter and Conrad Roy III and the events that led to his death and her controversial conviction.
Golden Globe nominee Liz Hannah (The Post) and Patrick Macmanus (Dr. Death) are set to serve as co-showrunners for the series and will executive produce alongside Fanning and Echo Lake’s Brittany Kahan, with Universal Studio Group’s Universal Content Productions acting as home base for the project. Also attached are Baron and Erin Lee Carr, director of the HBO documentary exploring the case I Love You, Now Die, as consulting producers for the series.
Fanning first partnered with the streaming platform for The Great, created by Golden Globe and Oscar nominee Tony McNamara (The Favourite), and after receiving rave reviews from critics and strong viewership it was picked up for a 10-episode second season.
