Sharlto Copley Joins Season 2 of Netflix’s Russian Doll

Variety reports that Sharlto Copley has jumped aboard the second season of Netflix’s award-winning mystery dramedy, Russian Doll. The actor is the latest to join the star-studded cast following the announcements of Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) and Carolyn Michelle Smith (Colony).

The series follows a young woman named Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) who gets stuck in a time loop in which she relives her own 36th birthday party over and over again before subsequently dying, waking up and starting the day anew.

The first season also starred Greta Lee (KTown), Yul Vazquez (Captain Phillips), Elizabeth Ashley (Ocean’s 8), and Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire). Chloë Sevigny (Lizzie), Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black), Brendan Sexton III (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Rebecca Henderson (Appropriate Behavior), Jeremy Bobb (The Knick), Ritesh Rajan (Stitchers), and Jocelyn Bioh (School Girls) appeared in guest-starring roles. Details about Season 2’s storyline and character descriptions are still being kept under wraps.

Russian Doll is co-created by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland, who all serve as executive producers, with Headland and Lyonne as writers for the series. The series is produced by Universal Television, Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions, JAX Media, and 3 Arts Entertainment. The series features an all-female writing and directing team. All episodes are directed by Jamie Babbit, Headland, and Lyonne.

Copley is best known for his performance in Neil Blomkamp’s sci-fi action film District 9, but has also appeared in such films as The A-Team, Maleficent and Elysium. He will next be seen in the title role of Ted Kaczynski (aka the Unabomber) in the upcoming drama Ted K.
