Netflix has finally announced the release date for the upcoming fourth and final season of Atypical, confirming that the acclaimed comedy-drama series is scheduled to make its return on Friday, July 9. The date announcement also comes with the release of the first official photos from the long-awaited season, which you can check out below, featuring Keir Gilchrist’s Sam, Nik Dodani’s Zahid, Brigette Lundy-Paine’s Casey, Fivel Stewart’s Izzie, and more.
Last season saw Sam struggling to navigate college, and maintaining his relationships with Zahid and Paige. It also featured Casey discovering her sexuality, while Doug and Elsa continued to work on their marriage.

Atypical is a coming-of-age story from the point-of-view of Sam, an 18-year-old on the autistic spectrum searching for love and independence. While Sam is on his funny and emotional journey of self-discovery, the rest of his family must grapple with change in their own lives while exploring the question: what does it really mean to be “normal”?
The series is created, written and executive produced by Robia Rashid (How I Met Your Mother, Will & Grace) It stars Keir Gilchrist as Sam; Jennifer Jason Leigh as Sam’s mother, Elsa; Michael Rapaport as Sam’s father, Doug; Brigette Lundy-Paine as Sam’s scrappy sister, Casey; Amy Okuda as Sam’s therapist, Julia; Nik Dodani as Zahid; and Jenna Boyd as Paige.

Atypical hails from Sony Pictures Television and executive producers Academy Award-winning producer Seth Gordon and Mary Rohlich, with Jennifer Jason Leigh set as a producer. Michelle Dean, who received her Ph.D. from UCLA and worked at the UCLA Center for Autism and Research and Treatment before joining the faculty of CSU Channel Island, was also brought into the production to help guide an accurate depiction of autism spectrum disorder.
Seasons 1-3 are currently available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
