According to Score: The Podcast, the great James Newton Howard is set to compose Disney+’s upcoming Willow TV series.

Howard takes the scoring reins of the fantasy franchise from the late, great James Horner, who composed Ron Howard’s 1989 original film. Sadly, Horner passed away in a plane accident in 2015, leaving behind a storied legacy of memorable film scores including the Oscar winning Titanic, Braveheart, Apollo 13, and many others.
Willow ranks among the composer’s finest efforts, which means there’s certainly a high bar for Howard to strive for, but given his equally astonishing track record — including scores for films such as The Fugitive, The Dark Knight, The Sixth Sense, and the recent Raya and the Last Dragon, among many others — the man is obviously up to the task.
Warwick Davis is the only cast member from the 1988 Willow movie to return for the series. He will reprise his role as Willow Ufgood. However, the spotlight will now fall on Princess Kit (Ruby Cruz). That’s because she has to save her twin brother, who has been kidnapped.

But Kit won’t be alone on her quest. A warrior named Jade (Erin Kellyman) and Kit’s maid, Dove (Ellie Bamber), will accompany her. Boorman (Amer Chadha-Patel) also joins the three young women in return for being freed from prison.
Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle are showrunning the series. Ron Howard, the director of the original Willow, will produce the series alongside Bob Dolman.
Disney+ hasn’t set a date for Willow yet. Regardless, a 2022 debut seems likely.
