Ahead of its upcoming final season debut next week, Netflix has announced that their hit coming-of-age dramedy On My Block will officially be getting a new spin-off series titled Freeridge, which is being described as more female-driven teen comedy set within the original series’ titular fictional city. It will be center around a new crew of friends who may or may not have unleashed a deadly curse, and kicking off an unforgettable adventure of a lifetime.
“While this chapter is closing for our OG squad this October as they reach the end of High School, we are excited to bring a brand new cast of characters and stories to life in this On My Block spin-off,” Netflix’s Head of Comedy, Tracy Pakosta said in a statement. “There are so many more stories to tell in Freeridge and we’re grateful to continue this journey with Lauren, Eddie, Jeremy, Jamie Uyeshiro, and Jamie Dooner.”
On My Block’s final season premieres in one week and while that means we’ll be saying goodbye to Monse, Ruby, Jamal, Cesar, and Jasmine we won’t be leaving this incredible universe just yet.

Freeridge hails from original series creators Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzelez, and Jeremy Haft, who will also return to serve as co-creators, and executive producers along with Jamie Uyeshiro, and Jamie Dooner. Uyeshiro, Gonzalez, and Haft have also been set as showrunners.
“Co-creating and running On My Block was and will always be a highlight of my life,” Iungerich said. “I am so proud to pass the baton to my incredible partners Eddie and Jeremy and the incomparable Jamie Uyeshiro who rocked it in the writers room from day one. There are more stories to tell of our beloved Freeridge and I cannot wait to continue to work with this talented team.”
“Some of the greatest comments we’ve heard about On My Block were from fans telling us that they felt seen and represented,” Uyeshiro, Gonzalez and Haft said in a joint statement. “As we embark on Freeridge, a more female-driven show, we will continue to invest in authentic characters that represent our passionate audience…. Oh, and there may be gnomies.”
On My Block is a coming-of-age comedy about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain, and the newness of high school they experience along the way. Lifelong friendships are tested as Monse, Ruby, Jamal, and Cesar confront the challenges of adolescence and life in their predominantly Hispanic and black neighborhood set in LA’s South Central neighborhood.

“Season 4 finds our friends two years later, having gone their separate ways,” reads the synopsis for the final season. “When a secret is unburied, they quickly learn you can’t run from the past and they will need to stick together to survive.”
On My Block currently stars Diego Tinoco as Cesar Diaz, Sierra Capri as Monse Finnie, Jason Genao as Ruby Martinez, Brett Gray as Jamal Turner, Jessica Marie Garcia as Jasmine, and Julio Macia as Oscar.
