Disney+’s The Mandalorian Season 3 Begins Production

Rocky vet Carl Weathers took to Twitter to confirm that production on the highly-anticipated third season of Disney+’s hit sci-fi prequel The Mandalorian has finally begun. Weathers will be reprising his role as Greef Karga and is also expected to direct another episode in the next season. The filming start was initially planned for April but was delayed because the stages in Los Angeles were still being used for the production of the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which had only wrapped in September.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is currently slated to make its return sometime next year, following the debut of its first spin-off The Book of Boba Fett which is set to premiere on December 29, 2021.

The Mandalorian hails from executive producers Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, Karen Gilchrist, and Carrie Beck, with Favreau also set as the showrunner and one of its directors. It is being led by Pedro Pascal as a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. As of now, Carl Weathers and Gian Carlo Esposito are the only returning cast members confirmed for the third season.

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe, the series is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order,” reads the synopsis. “We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
