50 Cent: 8 Mile TV Series in the Works

A television adaptation of the fan-favorite film 8 Mile is in the works, according to artist and producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

Speaking during a recent appearance on Real 92.3’s Big Boy, Jackson said that not only was a television adaptation in the works, but that Eminem (who starred in the film) needed no convincing on making it a reality.

“I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television,” Jackson said. “We’re in motion … It’s gonna be big. I’m working. I ain’t got no duds. I’m batting 100. I think it should be there for his legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it.”

Originally released in 2002, 8 Mile stars Eminem in his film debut and tells the story of a white rapper named Jimmy Smith Jr., also known as B-Rabbit, and his attempts to catapult himself into a career as a rapper. The film also starred Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, Michael Shannon, Anthony Mackie, and Kim Basinger.

Following its release, 8 Mile was both a critical and box office success. The film ended up grossing more than $240 million at the box office, and its soundtrack went quadruple platinum as well. 8 Mile also took home an Academy Award in 2002, with Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” winning the award for Best Original Song.
