The creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte has revealed that the Jedi played by Carrie-Anne Moss took inspiration from the actress’ iconic role in The Matrix.
Speaking with Empire, Leslye Headland explained that Moss’ character — named Jedi Master Indara — was inspired by The Matrix’s Trinity. The showrunner noted that the character of Trinity is immediately identifiable as a powerful individual, which was a characteristic that she wanted Indara to have in the Disney+ series as well.
“She is very much inspired by Trinity,” Headland stated. “I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight — somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, ‘Oh, that’s the most powerful Jedi in the room.’ And that’s Trinity.”
The Acolyte is described as a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers that will be set within the final days of the High Republic era. In addition to The Acolyte, Lucasfilm is also working on several other Star Wars projects, including shows like Skeleton Crew, Andor Season 2, and Ahsoka Season 2.
