Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series has been acquired by Netflix.
Per Deadline, Netflix has landed the rights to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television’ Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series.
A release date for the new Scooby-Doo series has not yet been announced. Plot details remain under wraps at this time.
Who is involved with Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series?
Scooby-Doo! The Live-Action Series is written by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. Both Appelbaum and Rosenberg are executive-producing the series alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, and Jeff Pinkner. Jonathan Gabay and Adrienne Erickson serve as co-executive producers.
Warner Bros. Entertainment officially launched the Scooby-Doo franchise, which was created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, in 1969. The original series — Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! — introduced viewers to the Mystery Inc. gang, a group of four teenagers (Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Shaggy Rogers) and their talking dog who solve spooky, ghost and monster-related mysteries.
A number of animated spin-offs, sequels, reboots, and movies followed Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
The first live-action Scooby-Doo movie was released in United States theaters in 2002. Directed by Raja Gosnell and written by James Gunn, the movie starred Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Linda Cardellini as Velma, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Neil Fanning as the voice of Scooby.
A sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, followed in 2004 with the same cast and director. A third film was originally intended to follow the sequel; however, Warner Bros. decided not to move forward with it after Monsters Unleashed didn’t do as well as expected at the box office.
There have also been two live-action Scooby-Doo television films, 2009’s Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and 2010’s Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster, as well as a direct-to-Daphne & Velma movie that was released in 2018.
