Up-and-coming actress Laura Marcus has been tapped to join the star-studded Death By Lightning cast for Netflix‘s newest limited drama.
Marcus is set to portray the role of President Garfield’s daughter Mollie Garfield in the upcoming historical drama. The British star most recently appeared in The Serpent Queen and The Jetty shows. Her other TV credits include Silent Witness, Tom Jones, Bad Education, and Miss Scarlet & the Duke.

Marcus will be joining previously announced cast members Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) as Charles Guiteau, Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water) as President James Garfield, Nick Offerman (The Last of Us) as Chester A. Arthur, Betty Gilpin (GLOW) as First Lady Crete Garfield, Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) as Secretary of State James Blaine, Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire) as Senator Roscoe Conkling, Stephen McKinley Henderson (Civil War) as Senator Blanche Bruce, Paula Malcomson (Parish) as Franny Scoville, and Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey) as Kate Chase Sprague.
“The limited drama brings to life the epic and stranger-than-fiction true story of James Garfield (Shannon), reluctant 20th president of the United States, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau (Macfadyen) — the man who would come to kill him,” reads the logline.
Based on Candice Millard’s Destiny of The Republic novel, Death by Lightning is created and executive produced by Mike Makowsky, with Matt Ross attached to direct all episodes. It is executive produced by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with Ross, Bernie Caulfield, and Duncan Muggoch.
