The Death of Bunny Munro has been generating buzz after it revealed the first look of star Matt Smith in the series. The six-part TV show draws inspiration from a 2009 Nick Cave novel of the same name and focuses on the unique journey of a grief-stricken father-son duo. In a recently released set photo, fans have received their first glimpse at what Smith’s character will look like when the show finally drops.

As seen in the set image for The Death of Bunny Munro, a shirtless Matt Smith can be seen staring into the camera with a cigarette in his mouth. Accompanying him is Rafael Matheì’s Bunny Junior, who carries a playful grin on his face as he looks at his father. The scene takes place inside a laundrette, which establishes an intriguing setup for the much-awaited drama.
The six-part Sky Studios series, which will come out sometime next year, revolves around the chaotic lives of Bunny Munro, played by Matt Smith, and his son, Bunny Junior. Following his wife’s death by suicide, the womanizing salesman attempts to take his shot at parenting on his own. He sets out on a road trip with his son across Southern England in order to deal with the sense of loss in his own way.
Munro constantly hits on different women, moving from one sales pitch to another while Junior bids his time by conversing with an imaginary version of his deceased mother. Things continue to spiral out of control until Matt Smith’s Bunny Munro realizes the impact his lifestyle is having on his impressionable son.
Talking to NME, Matt Smith showered Nick Cave with praise and lauded The Death of Bunny Munro for its layered narrative. “It’s a brilliant exploration of love, grief, and chaos. At its heart a deep, difficult, and tender story about a father and son, coping with loss and change,” the actor said.
The Death of Bunny Munro, which will come out in 2025, was directed by Isabella Eklöf and written by Pete Jackson.
