Netflix has unveiled the release date and first photo for The Residence, the upcoming murder mystery TV show from executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
The image features Uzo Aduba as detective Cordelia Cupp and Randall Park as FBI Special Agent Edwin Park. Cupp and Park team up to solve a murder at the White House.
“132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous state dinner,” the Netflix synopsis reads. “The Residence is a screwball whodunit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”
When is The Residence release date on Netflix?
All eight episodes of The Residence will stream on March 20, 2025.
The Residence’s ensemble cast includes Giancarlo Esposito as A. B. Wynter, Susan Kelechi Watson as Jasmine Haney, Jason Lee as Tripp Morgan, Ken Marino as Harry Hollinger, Edwina Findley as Sheila Cannon, Molly Griggs as Lilly Schumacher, Al Mitchell as Rollie Bridgewater, Dan Perrault as Colin Trask, Spencer Garrett as Wally Glick, Bronson Pinchot as Didier Gotthard, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Larry Dokes, and Mary Wiseman as Marvella.
Guest stars include Eliza Coupe, Jane Curtin, Paul Fitzgerald, Barrett Foa, Al Franken, Spencer Garrett, Taran Killam, Julian McMahon, Kylie Minogue, Matt Oberg, and Brett Tucker.
Paul William Davies is the series’ creator and showrunner. Davies is a former writer and executive producer on Scandal. The series is inspired by The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower. Rhimes and Betsy Beers are producers of the Netflix series.
“It’s a word I used over and over and over in so many documents I created for this show. Often in all caps: ‘Keep it FUN,’” Davis told Netflix. “I want people to be entertained. I want them to laugh, to be engaged — to try to solve this mystery. I hope they enjoy meeting these people, and they learn something.”
The Residence is the latest show to join Shondaland’s Netflix lineup. Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and Inventing Anna are three Shondaland shows that quickly became some of the most popular shows on Netflix.
