Natalie Portman embarks on a dangerous murder investigation in the newly released trailer for Lady in the Lake, an upcoming Apple TV+ limited series based on Laura Lippman’s novel of the same name. The series is set to arrive on the streaming giant on July 19, 2024.
The trailer begins with Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram) narrating how her death suddenly turned her into the person everyone called “the lady in the lake.” Then comes Portman’s Maddie Schwartz, who — tired of being just someone’s wife — throws herself into the dangerous world of investigative journalism, in which she tries to uncover the truth behind the mysterious murder of Cleo in her pursuit to reinvent herself and the price she’s willing to pay for her dreams, no matter how dangerous it may be.
“Your writing dreams ruined your life. Now, you wanted those same dreams to rewrite it. But why did you need to drag my dead body into it,” Ingram’s Cleo narrates in the trailer.
Who else is involved in Lady in the Lake?
Created and directed by Alma Har’el, the forthcoming series also stars Y’lan Noel (The First Purge), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Byron Bowers (Irma Vep), Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place), Josiah Cross (King Richard), Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood), and Pruitt Taylor Vince (The Mentalist).
The synopsis for the upcoming thriller reads: “When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz is a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Johnson is a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger.”
