WIT Studio is a well-known name in the anime industry, mostly for its outstanding contribution in animating Hajime Isayama’s magnum opus, Attack on Titan. They produced the series for three seasons, after which there was a shift in the animation studio — MAPPA.
The vivid artwork, detailed sequences, and memorable OSTs of Attack on Titan did a great job of encapsulating the series’ vibes. For fans who want to see more of WIT Studio’s works, here is a list of the best series they have ever produced.
Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan is one of the most popular shows in the anime community. The story follows Eren Yeager, a young man who hopes to attain freedom by going beyond the walled city of Paradis. He overcomes all the obstacles that hinder his path toward liberty. However, the protagonist finds himself consumed by his ambitions and enslaved by his dreams.
Vinland Saga
One of the most popular Viking stories, Vinland Saga follows Thorfinn’s quest to avenge his father, Thors. Caught in the war between England and the Danes, he tries his best to find a way to exact his revenge on Askeladd, the one who killed his father. However, he often wonders whether he will ever achieve peace in his lifetime. Giving up on his childhood dream of getting to Vinland, Thorfinn must engage in the battlefield where nothing but death is certain.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
The genre of anime is rife with zombie apocalypses, so much so that audiences get bored of watching the same stories over and over again. However, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is quite an exception. Set during the Industrial Revolution, a zombie (or Kabane) virus outbreak results in the protagonist Ikoma getting infected. But he manages to halt the transformation and becomes a human-Kabane hybrid. The series follows his quest to find shelter for the remaining mankind as he fights against swarms of Kabane along the way.
Seraph of the End
In Seraph of the End, majority of humanity have died from an unexplainable man-made virus except those under the age of 13. Meanwhile, the vampire race rises from the shadows to take over the world. The series witnesses Yuichiro and Mikaela’s struggle to eradicate vampires and reclaim humanity’s freedom. While it is primarily a fantasy story, the series is a tale of friendship gone wrong. Although the premise seems saturated with everything happening simultaneously, it delivers the core ideas well.
After the Rain
WIT Studio does not just deal with action series. They have also tried their hand at the romance genre, such as After the Rain. It follows the story of Akira Tachibana, who is in love with Masami, a middle-aged manager at her workplace. As she navigates through her everyday life, Akira faces a dilemma of whether to confess her love for Masami. After the Rain exemplifies WIT Studio’s brilliance in terms of animation quality and storytelling. Although the series only ran for 12 episodes, it is a wholesome watch for anime fans.
