Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Anime Reveals Release Date, New Visual & More

On Monday, March 11, 2024, the official website and Twitter for the new Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf anime revealed its release date. The anime is based on famous author Isuna Hasekura’s Spice & Wolf light novel series.

Isuna Hasekura released the novel series with illustrations by Jū Ayakura in 2006. Since then, 24 volumes have been released, with Yen Press releasing the latest novel in January 2023. The novel’s success inspired an anime adaptation back in 2008.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf will premiere on April 1, 2024, at 25:30 (effectively April 2 at 1:30 a.m.) on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, and other Japanese networks. The new series will be based on the light novel and follow merchant Kraft Lawrence’s encounter with the wolf girl, Holo. Jun Fukuyama will reprise his role as Kraft Lawrence, while Ami Koshimizu will return as Holo.

The announcement also revealed that Takeo Takahashi will return to the series as chief director. Hijiri Sanpei is directing the anime at Studio Passione, while Kevin Penkin is composing the music. Meanwhile, ENISHIYA is producing the series.

Yen Press, which releases the manga in English, describes the series as follows: “Kraft Lawrence has been walking the lonely path of the itinerant merchant for seven years. His life changes forever when he meets Holo, the Wolf-God of the harvest, and the two begin traveling together. Soon, they discover a unique business opportunity, but their plans go awry when a competing organization captures Holo and threatens to turn her over to the oppressive, monotheistic Church. Can Lawrence rescue his companion, and will the pair become more than just friends?”
