The ongoing Wuxia C-drama Joy of Life Season 2, starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin, released episode 28 on May 29, 2024. The episode focuses on Fan Xian (Zhang Ruoyun) meeting his old mentor. Also, in this episode, Wu Zhu gives a musket to Ruo Ruo so she can protect her brother, Fan Xian. But Lady Qing Mei, Fan Xian’s mother, apparently acquired the musket from the Divine Temple. When she asks why he chose her to be Fan Xian’s protector, Wu Zhu answers that, like him, Ruo Ruo also considers Fan Xian to be the most important person in her life.
The news of the treasury bonds proposed by Fan Xian reaches the palace. It causes a stir in the court. Fan Jian calls his son audacious for coming up with such a foolish idea. He is so embarrassed that he wishes to take voluntary retirement and send Fan Xian to prison. Chen Ping Ping refuses to comment on the matter, as the Overwatch Council doesn’t have any jurisdiction over the imperial treasury. Crown Prince Li Cheng Yu thinks that they can not send Fan Xian to prison. He argues that the concept of the treasury bond is unheard of in the entire history of the Qing Dynasty. So there is no law that they can use against Fan Xian. Prince Cheng Ze, on the other hand, refuses to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, Fan Xian searches for the musket all over his chamber, but it is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, he notices a mysterious shadow lurking outside his room. Without wasting a second, he gets out of his room and chases the masked intruder. The perpetrator is surprisingly fast and lures Fan Xian out to a remote area. Fan Xian finally catches up to him and is able to corner him with the help of the black cavalry.

Joy of Life Season 2 ep 28: Zhang Ruoyun receives an imperial edict
To Fan Xian’s surprise, the intruder turns out to be none other than his old mentor, Fei Jie. Although the encounter catches him off guard at first, Fan Xian’s happiness knows no bounds as he reunites with his beloved teacher.
Fei Jie is there to stay with Fan Xian for a few days. He mentions a recent case he has been investigating. A murderer was brought into the capital from Jiangnan, but he vanished before the authorities could put him in prison. Fei Jie thinks that someone very powerful is involved in the case, someone who even the Overwatch Council can not touch. Furthermore, he gives Fan Xian some medicine that will cure Wan Er’s tuberculosis. Fan Xian gets emotional and asks him to retire. He expresses his wish to take care of Fei Jie, but he turns down his offer.
After Fan Xian returns to his residence, Wu Zhu takes him to a hidden chamber full of artifacts. Although Wu Zhu doesn’t remember their origin, he is sure that it was Qing Mei who collected them. He calls Fan Xian a logical flaw who holds memories of both the past and a distant future. To understand better, Wu Zhu suggests that he visit the great workshop in Jiangnan.
Fei Jie and Shadow watch over the Fan family. But complications arise when a strange assassin hurls an attack on Fei Jie. He stabs him in the heart with a sword-like weapon, similar to Wu Zhu’s weapon.
Meanwhile, Fan Xian’s carriage is stopped by Commander Gong. He is there to deliver a royal edict. In the edict, the emperor orders Fan Xian to follow Gong Dian. Fang Xian follows the instructions and reaches the legendary Divine Temple.
