PC players looking to max out the settings on Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC may need to upgrade their machine before the long-awaited expansion pack releases according to one CD Projekt Red developer. Set to be released on September 26 alongside the free Update 2.0, the Phantom Liberty DLC introduces new gameplay features to Cyberpunk 2077 in addition to adding new story content for players to explore.
CD Projekt Red’s Lead Scene Programmer Says Phantom Liberty DLC Will Push Players’ PCs to Their Limits
According to a new Twitter post from Filip Pierściński, the Lead Scene Programmer at Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED, the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC looks set to give players’ PCs a serious workout. In the tweet, Pierściński recommends that PC players “check conditions of your cooling systems” before installing the expansion, stating that the game will use every bit of CPU power available. According to the post, players can expect 90% CPU utilization even on 8-core systems.
First revealed in September 2022, the Phantom Liberty DLC is a paid expansion pack for Cyberpunk 2077 featuring a story that leans heavily into spy-thriller territory. The expansion is set in a new district of the game’s sprawling, neon-lit Night City and features actor Idris Elba playing FIA agent Solomon Reed, as well as the return of Keanu Reeves’ Johnny Silverhand. Phantom Liberty is the only full expansion planned for Cyberpunk 2077.
Even though it looks unlikely that Cyberpunk 2077 will see any more expansions on this scale, the Phantom Liberty DLC won’t be the last players see of the game’s distinctive universe. Following the initial announcement of Phantom Liberty in late 2022, CD Projekt RED gave gamers a sneak peek at its development slate for the coming years. In addition to several new games in its beloved The Witcher franchise, the Polish developer announced plans for a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel but had no other details to disclose at the time.
