There can be only one and apparently, Henry Cavill wants to be that one.
According to a report from Deadline, Cavill (Man of Steel, The Witcher) is set to star in an upcoming reboot of Highlander that Lionsgate has in development. Cavill is said to be in talks for a lead role in the upcoming film. Details are sparse, so it’s not known if Cavill will play a new character or a version of an already established Highlander character.

John Wick director Chad Stahelski is attached to direct the Henry Cavill Highlander reboot, while Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis, and David Leitch will serve as producers. Executive producers are Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger, and Gregory Widen. Previously, Peter Davis, who worked as a producer on the original film, was involved until his passing.
Deadline mentions that the reboot has been in the works for quite some time with Ryan Reynolds and Justin Lin also in talks. At one point, even Tom Cruise was said to be the desired star for it. However, it’s said that it’s now to the point where it could enter production in the near future with everything coming together.
Highlander released in 1986 and told the story of three immortal beings hunting each other down as “there can be only one.” The original film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown in the key roles. It became quite popular and spawned several sequels and three television series.
Cavill most recently filmed the second season of The Witcher, which streams on Netflix. He’s also set to be Sherlock Holmes once again in the upcoming Enola Holmes sequel.
