Deadpool Director Believes Hero Would Still Work in a PG-13 MCU Film

After the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney in 2019, many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe got extremely excited over the prospects of some classic characters potentially making their way into the larger MCU. One of those characters is Deadpool, who was always a fan-favorite but blew up after the first two Deadpool films released to critical acclaim.

Speaking to Inverse a new interview, Tim Miller, who directed the first Deadpool film, was asked about the potential inclusion of Deadpool into the MCU, and if the character could work without the R-rated antics that he’s become known for. According to Miller, those things wouldn’t matter much if Ryan Reynolds was still playing the character.

“I think Ryan Reynolds’ take on the character and the way he embraces the particular kind of insanity — even if you said he’s not gonna use four-letter words — would still be there,” Miller said. “He still is that character. You can take the R-rated parts out of it if you wanted and it would still be Deadpool if Ryan was doing it.”

While fans may still be worried that Deadpool will be changed to fit the more family-friendly aspects of the MCU, Kevin Feige seemed to have calmed everyone down in January when he confirmed that Deadpool 3 was happening, and would not only be included in the MCU but would be rated-R as well.
