The Overlook Hotel, a prequel to The Shining, is still open for business. Variety reports that Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go, One Hour Photo) is in the running to helm the film for Warner Bros.
According to Variety, “…the film will tell the origin story of the Overlook Hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson. A robber baron at the turn of the 20th century, Watson scaled the remote peaks of the Colorado Rockies to build the grandest resort in America, and a place he and his family would also call home.”
News of the project first broke in 2012, when it was reported Warner Bros. was working with writer/producer Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Avatar) and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt on the prequel.
Those three are still involved with Glenn Mazzara, former showrunner of “The Walking Dead” and showrunner of the upcoming “Damien” series, having penned an original script.
