According to The Hollywood Reporter, Captain America: Civil War star Daniel Brühl and Golden Globe nominee Macaulay Culkin have been tapped to star opposite Rosamund Pike in the forthcoming high-concept pandemic thriller film Rich Flu. Further details about their character descriptions are still being kept under wraps, but production is expect to begin this fall.

Rich Flu will be directed by Spanish filmmaker Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia from a screenplay he co-wrote with Pedro Rivero, who previously worked together in Netflix’s thriller film The Platform which won the People’s Choice Award for Midnight Madness at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.
In the film, a strange disease kills off some of the richest and most influential people on the planet,” reads the synopsis. “First it was the billionaires, then the multi-millionaires and so on progressively….Then it threatens to strike anyone with any sort of fortune. With the whole world panicking, people try to flood the market with assets the world no longer wants. The movie asks how far people would go to save their skin when the wealth that made the world go round suddenly becomes its most dangerous commodity.”
It will be produced by Pablo Larraín and Juan de Dios Larraín’s Fabula, which is the studio behind Pablo Larraín’s recently acclaimed biographical drama Spencer. Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls for Nostromo Pictures banner, Carlos Juárez; Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and Albert Soler are producing, with Sierra/Affinity handling its international sales.

Brühl gained worldwide recognition for his role as Helmut Zemo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He reprise the character again last year in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He also recently starred in the action prequel The King’s Man.
This project marks Culkin’s first movie project in three years since appearing in Seth Green’s comedy film Changeland in 2019. The Home Alone star was most recently seen in the latest seasons of American Horror Story and The Righteous Gemstones.
