Jonathan Majors’ Magazine Dreams Out at Searchlight, Will Seek New Distributor

Jonathan Majors’ Magazine Dreams needs a new home. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Searchlight Pictures has returned the rights to the bodybuilding drama to the filmmakers, who will now look for a new distributor. The news comes one month after Majors was found guilty on two counts of assault in the third degree and harassment.

Magazine Dreams premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews, with Majors’ committed performance as bodybuilder Killian Maddox garnering Oscar buzz. Searchlight Pictures acquired the rights to Magazine Dreams in February 2023.

The film was scheduled for a theatrical release on December 8, 2023. However, Searchlight removed Magazine Dreams from its release schedule due to Majors’ legal complications and the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Since the December 2023 conviction, Majors has been dropped from numerous projects, including Marvel, who fired the actor from his Kang the Conqueror role. Majors was also removed from 48 Hours in Vegas, where he was set to play NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman.

What to Expect in Jonathan Majors’ Magazine Dreams?

“Magazine Dreams follows aspiring bodybuilder Killian Maddox (Majors), who struggles to find human connection in this exploration of celebrity and violence,” the official synopsis reads. “Nothing deters him from his fiercely protected dream of superstardom, not even the doctors who warn him of the permanent damage he causes to himself with his quest.”

Starring alongside Majors is Haley Bennett as Jessie, Taylour Paige as Pink Coat, Mike O’Hearn as Brad Vanderhorn, Harrison Page as William Lattimore, Bradley Stryker as Ken Donaghue, and Harriet Sansom Harris as Killian’s counselor.

Magazine Dreams is written and directed by Elijah Bynum. Producers include Jennifer Fox, Dan Gilroy, Jeffrey Soros, and Simon Horsman.
