James Gunn Wants to Work With The Flash’s Grant Gustin in the DCU

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has expressed his interest in working with the former The Flash star Grant Gustin on a future DCU project. This comes after Gustin shared that he’d play the character again should Gunn ask him to do so.

When a fan asked Gunn (via Threads) to cast the actor as one of the DCU heroes, the filmmaker responded, “Grant is an incredibly talented guy, performing now on Broadway, I believe, and is absolutely not going to waste just because he’s not currently in a DC project.”

He added, “But of course I’d love to work with him at some point.”

Gustin first played The Flash (also known as Barry Allen) in the second season of Arrow. He then continued to play the role in the standalone series The Flash, which premiered back in 2014. The Flash, dubbed the longest-running series in the Arrowverse, aired on The CW for nine seasons from 2014 to 2023.

Throughout nine seasons, the show followed Barry Allen as he set out to battle criminals using the supernatural ability he gained after being struck by lightning.

Since the actor wrapped up his stint in the Arrowverse series, he went on to star in the romantic comedy movie Puppy Love as Max Stevenson, opposite Lucy Hale’s Nicole Matthews. The 2023 movie, directed by Nick Fabiano and Richard Alan Reid, is available to stream on Amazon Freeve.

In addition, Gustin is set to star as Barry Keenan in the forthcoming biopic titled Operation Blue Eyes. The actor will star as the businessman who is the man behind Frank Sinatra Jr.’s kidnapping in 1963.

Gustin will also headline Water for Elephants, a Broadway musical based on Sara Gruen’s 2006 novel of the same name. It is slated to premiere at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway on March 21.
