Well now, it appears we may have a match made in heaven as it’s being reported Ben Affleck and David Fincher are set to re-team on a remake of Alfred Hitchcock‘s Strangers on a Train with Gone Girl screenwriter Gillian Flynn in talks to write the screenplay.
The film, which will apparently be called Strangers, won’t necessarily be an adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith novel, as was Hitchcock’s, the novel will serve as its basis, but the film will be made comtemporary and redefined for the times. As Deadline reports:
Affleck will play a variation of the role played by Farley Granger of a tennis pro who is bored with his marriage and wants to get divorced, but instead gets entwined with a wealthy socialite psycho who proposes the notion of exchanging murders. The twist here is a compelling one. Affleck will play a movie star-in the middle of a campaign for an Oscar during awards season-whose private plane breaks down and is given a ride to LA on another plane by a wealthy stranger.
I’m already hooked, let me see it now.
Affleck is apparently clearing space to shoot Strangers between directing and starring in the Dennis Lehane novel adaptation Live By Night in the spring, and starring in Justice League, on the heels of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in 2016.
