Following the stellar Gone Girl, Ben Affleck, David Fincher and Gillian Flynn are a legit lurid dream team. Great news then, that the three will be reteaming for another psychological thriller, this time remaking Master of Suspense Alfred Hitchock’s Strangers on a Train.
Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, and starring Farley Granger and Robert Walker, Strangers on a Train is of course Hitch’s massively influential yarn of two men who enter a pact to exchange murders. Bruno (Walker) will kill Guy’s (Granger) wife, while Guy will off Bruno’s father. Bruno does the deed (in a fantastic amusement park stalking sequence), while Guy is now pressured to uphold his end. Deadline reports the remake, simply called Strangers, will see Affleck star as a variation on Guy. Instead of a tennis pro, he’ll be an actor in the middle of an awards season campaign whose private plane breaks down. He’s then given a ride in another by a “wealthy stranger.”
Hopefully a full GG reunion can be achieved and there’s a role for that film’s breakout Rosamund Pike.
