Oxygen’s Final Moments examines Brittney Gargol’s murder by her friend Cheyenne Antoine. The 2015 case, which was solved using a Facebook selfie, will feature in an all-new episode titled “The Missing Clue.” It airs on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at 7 p.m. ET.
The official synopsis states, “After overcoming a troubled childhood, Brittney Gargol is on a path to a bright future; when the Canadian high school senior is found murdered by the side of a desolate road, a surprising clue leads to an arrest.”
Cheyenne Antoine reportedly confessed to hitting and strangling Brittney Gargol using her belt during an argument on the night of March 24, 2015. Antoine then claimed that she dumped the body on a roadside in Saskatchewan, Canada. Two years later, police arrested the killer and charged her with second-degree murder. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter, receiving a seven-year sentence.
Is Cheyenne Antoine still in prison?
According to CNN, police had long suspected Cheyenne Antoine’s role in her friend Brittney Gargol’s 2015 strangulation death. However, they only arrested her two years later, in March 2017, and charged her with second-degree murder and causing an indignity to a body. Antoine later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a seven-year prison sentence. She is currently serving time in a Canadian prison.
The outlet reported that police linked Antoine to the killing using a Facebook selfie from the night of the murder. Both girls snapped a picture together before heading out on March 24, 2025. Later that night, Gargol was found murdered on a roadside in Saskatchewan, Canada, with a belt lying next to the body. This belt was determined to be the murder weapon.
Police ruled Cheyenne Antoine, then 18, as a suspect after noticing that she was wearing a similar belt in the selfie they clicked that evening. Moreover, prosecutor Robin Ritter claimed that the wide webbed black belt also matched marks they found on Gargol’s car. “The marks were consistent with that black belt,” Ritter told CNN.
As per the Guardian, police also got a crucial tip that led them to a witness who claimed that Antoine had admitted to the crime shortly after it happened. As per her confession, the two friends argued while intoxicated when Antoine hit the victim and strangled her.
The defense alleged that the girls were drunk and high on marijuana that night. Despite accepting responsibility for the murder, Antoine claimed she did not remember committing it.
Final Moments on Oxygen airs with a new episode on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
