Lost and Hawaii Five-0 star Daniel Dae Kim has joined the cast of the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series for Netflix in a series regular role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming series is being described as a “reimagined take on Nickelodeon’s beloved animated franchise.”
Kim will play Fire Lord Ozai, “the ruthlessly-driven leader of the Fire Nation who demands everyone live up to his impossible standards, especially his teen son, Prince Zuko. Ozai’s drive to conquer and to unite the world under the firebender rule is a family burden — he believes that it’s his destiny to finish a war started by his ancestors,” according to the outlet’s character description.
The cast also includes Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko.

Albert Kim (Sleepy Hollow, Nikita) serves as showrunner on the series as well as the central writer on the project. Roseanne Liang will direct the series alongside Michael Goi, Jabbar Raisani, and Jet Wilkinson. Kim executive produces along with Dan Lin (Walker, The Lego Movie, Aladdin), Lindsey Liberatore (Walker), and Michael Goi (Swamp Thing).
