According to Deadline, NBC’s hit medical drama New Amsterdam will officially be concluding its run with the upcoming fifth season. Unlike previous seasons, the final installment will only be airing 13 episodes, making it the series’ shortest season. This news comes after nearly a month since the Ryan Eggold-led drama had wrapped its 15-episode fourth season.
“The story of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring,” Lisa Katz, president of scripted programming at NBCUniversal Television & Streaming said in a statement. “We’re so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent, and collaboration.”

Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital, the series centers around Dr. Max Goodwin, who becomes the medical director at one of the oldest public hospitals in America. Starting with the question “How can I help,” it follows the challenges that Max will have to face in order to make the hospital accessible for everyone.
New Amsterdam currently stars Ryan Eggold (The Blacklist), Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Janet Montgomery (Salem), Jocko Sims (The Last Ship), and Tyler Labine (Tucker & Dale vs Evil).
