WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther has thrown his hat into the ring at Kazuchika Okada, who officially became a free agent on February 1, 2024. Okada instantly became one of the most sought-after talents worldwide.
Both WWE and AEW are actively vying for the former NJPW star’s signature, with recent reports suggesting that Shinsuke Nakamura’s resurgence in WWE is part of the company’s effort to lure The Rainmaker. Okada, a major star in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and a top wrestler in the past decade worldwide, remains a free agent, sparking intense speculation about his future destination.
In a recent interview with Nick Hausman, WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther expressed his admiration for Okada. He also noted that WWE would provide him with great competition, stating, “I think Okada is fantastic. I’ve always loved Japanese wrestling. When I grew up in professional wrestling, understanding everything, I always enjoyed Japanese wrestling the most. I was more of an All Japan guy than a New Japan guy, to be honest. But yeah, he’s one of the best in the world, and if he joins WWE, he’s very welcome to, and I think he finds great competition here.”
Will the Rainmaker heed the call of The Ring General and embrace the diverse competition of WWE? Or will he carve his path in the exhilarating realm of AEW? Only time will tell.

Fans may recall their classic Clash at the Castle 2022 showdown and triple threat match at WrestleMania 39. While Gunther’s IC title reign surpassed 600 days, the celebration on RAW was interrupted by Jey Uso, hinting at a potential title match at WrestleMania, although details remain unclear. Rumors suggest Jey Uso could face his brother, Jimmy Uso, at WrestleMania 40.
